Nous n'avons pas trouvé trace écrite du toponyme Saint-Thuriau, en breton Sant-Turiav, avant le XIX° siècle.

Ce toponyme n'ayant malheureusement laissé que peu de traces dans les ancienes écrits - le volume à dépouiller étant toujours colossal, nous ne pouvons vous présenter de formes anciennes.

Reconnu par les Églises catholique et orthodoxe, fêté le 13 juillet, Thuriau était évêque de Dol-de-Bretagne au VII° siècle. C'est un Saint Breton vénéré qui, selon son hagiographie, naquit à Lanvollon. Comme tout saint se respectant, il fit nombreux miracles et protège nombreuses paroisses et fidèles.
