⌘ Étymologies et toponymes

Montmorin, en vivaro-alpin Montmaurin, est connu dès 1242 et 1269, dates le voyant signalé sous la forme latine Castrum Montis Maurini dans l'Inventaire du Dauphiné et nous informe de l'existence d'un château sur le mont concerné. L'année 1332 nous offre un Mons Maurinus dans les archives d'Isnard; topponyme que nous retrouverons à l'identique dans le pouillé du Diocèse de Gap. alors que le rôe des décimes de du Diocèse nous offre un Mont Maurin en 1516.

Montmorin ne rappelle pas la présence de quelques envahisseurs arabes et leur installation sur le mont mais dérive du latin Maurus = noir, sombre ; Montmorin était sans doute un mont aux caractéristiques suffisamment sombres pour lui imposer ce toponyme.
