Lokmac'hloù, que les francisants connaissent sous le nom de Locmalo, est attesté en l'an 1160 avec un Loco Sancti Maclovii, hospitale latin qui est significatif et que nous retrouvons en 1377 dans les archives du Duché de Rohan-Chabot avec un Locmallou. Les années se succcédant verront un Locmalo en 1387, 1401, 1418, 1841, mais aussi un Locmalou en 1411 et 1424 alors que 1427 dévoilera un Locmoelou puis un Locmato en 1630 qui sera suivi d'un Lamato en 1654.

Ce toponyme rappelle l'existence d'un lieu sanctifié et dédié à Sant Mach'lou - Saint Maclou que vous ne confondrez pas avec Saint Malo dont les hauts faits et gestes sont totalement différents.
