Le glaizil, en vivaro-alpin Lo Glaiziu, est attesté pour la première fois connue dans les écrits en 1271 ; il se retrouve sous la forme Glaysilium dans le cartulaire de l'abbaye de Valbonne.

Ce toponyme reste très stable à travers les siècles. le Glaizil - Lo Glaiziu semble rappeler l'existence d'une église primitive existant en ces lieux.
