Lardier et Valença est né de la réunion des paroisses de Lardier et Valença.

Lardier est cité dès 1152 dans une bulle du pape Eugène III° sous son appellation latine de Castrum Larderii.

Valença nous est connu dès l'année 1235 grpace aux archives de l'Ordre de Malte qui avait commanderie à Gap et terres à Valença qui apparaissent sous leur nom latin Valansanum ; puis Valenca en 1473.
