Comme son nom l'indique, cette variété de pommes est originaire de la région d'Alma-Ata, actuellement capitale du Kazakhstan. Il semble qu'elle soit arrivée en Russie vers 1880 via Yegor Vasilyevitch Redko, originaire de la province de Voronej, et le pomologue Nikita Trofimovitch Moiseev.

Ces pommes pirent aimablement racine dans la région de Voronej et voyaient des fruits impressionnants dont certains atteignaient la taille d'une tête d'enfant. Le goût et qualités firent que ces pommes connurent énorme succès dès l'année 1900. Présentées à l'Exposition Universelle de Mannheim en 1908, elles recurent un accueil enthousiaste. Elle était présente sur les marchés depuis la Sibérie jusqu'en Allemagne et vit même des expéditions postales...

Le fruit

Gros, ils vont de 500 à 600 grammes. La peau, plutôt rouge voit des tâches jaune-vert sur le côté non exposé au soleil ; la peau est un peu grasse et rugueuse.
La chair

Sa chair est blanche, parfois d'un vert très pâle. Son goût est marqué et succulent
L'arbre

Vous pourrez greffer sur plein vent. l'arbre, entre 5 et 6 mètres, est puissant. Ses feuilles sont grandes et brillantes, d'un vert sombre. Ces arbres aiment le plein soleil et résistent très bien à la sécheresse. Il faut attendre 6 à 7 ans pour les premières récoltes. Il résiste moyennement aux froids ( de Russie bien sûr ! )

Jusqu'à 100kg par arbre
Conservation

6 mois sans problème au fruitier ; cette pomme supporte très bien le transport.

Il semble que cette variété de pommmes a terriblement souffert suite à la chute de l'URSS et au profit de variétés scientifiquement profilées mais dont la seule qualité est de tenir au frigo...
