⌘ Étymologies et toponymes

Châteauneuf-d'Oze, en occitan haut-alpin Chastenòu d'Oza, est cité dès 1307 sous la forme de Castrum Novum. Cette appellation est liée à la création d'un nouveau château, faisant sans doute suite à une ancienne construction.

En 1516, la paroisse est citée dans le rôle des décimes du diocèse de Gap sous le nom de Chasteauneuf vallée d'Oze. Oze permet de différencier ce lieu des autres châteaux neufs de la région.
