■ Ygrande: Le Monument aux Morts

Le Monument aux morts d'Ygrande est situé dans la Rue Anatole France, face au petit parc situé sur la fourche routière.

Alors qu'en général les communes firent choix d'une obélisque posée sur stèle, surmontée d'un soldat, coq ou autre motif, Ygrande fit choix d'une colonne brisée à lourde symbolique. Le fut de la colonne est orné d'une palme fixée à la colonne par un médaillon rectangulaire portant l'épitaphe. La colonne est posée sur un piédestal octogonal dont un pan sur deux porte un marbre mémoriel égrenant la longue liste des morts ygrandais. Les autres conflit virent ajout d'un marbre noir au pied du piédestal.

Les Monuments aux Morts rappellent les soldats morts pour le pays lors des derniers conflits. C'est la guerre franco-prussienne de 1870-1871 qui verront apparaître les premiers Monuments aux Morts du pays.

Toutes les communes de France ou presque voient leur monument édifié après la guerre de 1914-1918. L'épitaphe la plus courante est Morts pour la France sauf l'Alsace-Lorraine qui grave un Morts à la Guerre bien compréhensif.

Les Monuments aux Morts sont souvent oubliés lors de nos visites ; pourtant ils sont tranche d'Histoire importante et douloureux rappel des folies humaines.
