Puis vint la nuit,
La nuit...

Le fatal oiseau noir planait sur ton enfance,
Et tu le pressentais : tes yeux démesurés
S'agrandissaient d'effroi. Quelle horrible souffrance
De mourir au printemps, par un beau soir doré !
Le soleil fuit,
Puis vint la nuit,
La nuit...

Pourquoi dans les humains cette soif de lumière,
Ce désir angoissé d'amour, d'immensité,
Pourquoi nous torturer, si le tas de poussière
Est la fin de tout ce que nous avons rêvé ?
Si tout s'enfuit,
Si vient la nuit,
La nuit ?
