⌘ Étymologies et toponymes

Monetier-Allemont, noté Monestier-Alamont en vivaro-alpin, est déjà cité le 7 décembre 963 dans un privilège que signe Conrad, Roi de Bourgogne et de Provence, il s'agit alors d'un minuscule monastère dépendant de l'Abbaye de Montmajour. Ce monastère laissera sa trace dans ce toponyme avec ce Monetier.

Allemont était un poste romain qui apparaît sur la table de Peutinger sous le nom de Alarante ; il est aussi présent sur les vases apollinaires sous la forme de Alabonte. Le sens de cette partie du toponyme est obscur.
