La Croix-Hélléan, en breton Ar Groez-Helean, est attesté vers 1350.

Le XV° siècle, voyant ce toponyme en latin sous la forme Crux Heleana, est attesté dans le pouillé de Tours.

Le mot latin Crux pouvant être une Croix ou un gibet, ce lieu voyait-il le réjouissant gibet local, une croix remarquable, ou un simple croisement routier ?
La Croix-Hélléan, prieuré dépendant de l'Abbaye de Saint-Jean-des-Prés, nous ferait pencher pour une Croix et non un gibet, d'ailleurs non signalé.

La Croix-Hélléan présente quelques formes toponymiques anciennes dès l'année 1350 avec un La Croeiz que nous retrouvons au XV° siècle avec ce significatif Crux Heleana qui deviend La Croix Helen le siècle suivant. L'année 1731 nous dévoile un La Croix Heliant.
