Antony est attesté en 829 sous la forme latine Antoniacum dans une chartre de Louis le Pieux, premier Louis de France, confirmant un transfert de propriété aux moines de l'abbaye de Saint-Germain-des-Prés.

Ce toponyme dérive de l'anthroponyme Antonius, peut-être propriétaire d'un domaine gallo-romain ayant donné naissance au village originel.
