Le Monument aux morts d'Ygrande est situé au centre du village et chaque passant peut, regardant la pierre gravée, se souvenir de ces hommes que les orgueils nationaux ravirent très jeunes à la vie. L'épitaphe est gravée en grandes lettre de sable.

Les Monuments aux Morts rappellent les soldats morts pour le pays lors des derniers conflits. C'est la guerre franco-prussienne de 1870-1871 qui verront apparaître les premiers Monuments aux Morts du pays.

Toutes les communes de France ou presque voient leur monument édifié après la guerre de 1914-1918. L'épitaphe la plus courante est Morts pour la France sauf l'Alsace-Lorraine qui grave un Morts à la Guerre bien compréhensif.

Les Monuments aux Morts sont souvent oubliés lors de nos visites ; pourtant ils sont tranche d'Histoire importante et douloureux rappel des folies humaines.
