Les Monuments aux Morts furent, pour leur immense majorité d'entre eux, érigés entre 1919 et 1925. Ils rappellent à nos mémoires le nom des hommes de la commune morts lors des conflits militaires. Quasiment inexistants avant la première guerre mondiale - 1914-1918, ils sont devenus partie intégrante et obligée des monuments et bâtiments communaux, au même titre que l'église, la mairie ou l'école publique.

La commune de Le Saix, comme de multiples petits villages saignés par la Grande guerre, ne put financièrement envisager la création d'un monument aux morts ; elle fit donc réaliser une plaque de marbre qui fut fixée sur le mur de l'église paroissiale.
