Puy-Saint-Vincent, en vivaro-alpin Puei-Sant-Visant, est attesté en 1380 sous sa forme latine Podium, puis avec plus de précisions en 1438 avec un Podium Sanctii Vicentii.

Comme pour tous les autres Puys de la région et du département, ce Puy-Saint-Vincent dérive d'un mont qui, sans doute, aura été consacré à Saint Vincent pour le christianiser et, très probablement, extirper quelques restes de paganisme.
