Les lavoirs furent des hauts-lieux de vie villageoise ou urbaine. Deux fois l'an, printemsp et automne, les femmes - rémunérées ou non, s'y retrouvaient pour ce difficile et rude travail ; on faisait la buée et lavait des piles de linge. Pour le lavage, on pouvait faire bouillir le blanc avec de la cendre dans une lessiveuse, puis on le rinçait et séchait en fonction des épaisseurs, parfois étalés sur l'herbe pour blanchir au soleil. Un rude travail que la machine à laver fera disparaître et cela est bien. Le lavoir était aussi lieu de connivences, de bonne entente ou de disputes mémorables voyant crêpage de chignons et mémorables bagarres...

Le long de l'Aiguebelle, vous pourrez longer le sentier découverte de Montbrand ; c'est une balade bien sympathique qui mérite bien votre visite.

Le sentier est bien balisé mais il ne faut pas en rater l'entrée ; juste à droite après la dernière maison, au sortir de Vière et en se dirigeant vers le cimetière.
