⌘ La fête de Saint-Martin

Les foires de nos aïeux étaient grands moments de la vie locale et le jour de la Saint Martin est jour voyant fleurir les foires dans multiples villes de France et d'Europe.

La foire d'Annœullin se tient le jour de la Saint Martin et vit fleurir cette chanson que l'on doit à Célestin Dutoit, alias Mercredi, chansonnier qui faisait imprimer ses chansons sur feuilles volantes et les vendaient les jours de foires et marchés de la région.

Saint-Martin, notre patron,
Seul l'objet de notre fête,
Depuis Auchy jusqu'à Don,
Est partout, je le répète,
Depuis longtemps vénéré;
Autrefois sur son passage
Du lait-bouilli a mangé,
Depuis l'on en fait grand usage.

On se demande aux Pays-Bas
Lorsqu'autrefois étant touriste,
Sain Martin n'y allait-il pas,
Là comme ailleurs, rendre visite;
Je connais un dicton très-beau
Qui fut consigné par un moine,
On dit qu'il avait peur de l'eau,
Alors il partit sur Ancoisne.

Amiens, ville renommée,
Reçu un jour ce saint homme ;
Lorsqu'à la tête d'une armée,
Un pauvre demandant l'aumône,
Saint-Martin, pour lui faire cadeau,
En le voyant nu, se dépouille,
Lui coupa en deux son manteau,
Et devant lui l'autre s'agenouille.

On dit même que Saint-Martin
Fit un jour, avec le diable,
Un pari d'un bon matin
De manger du lait-bouilli à table ;
Mais le diable en a crevé,
Car il mangeait comme une bête;
L'autre, au contraire, faisait glisser
Le lait-bouilli dans sa musette.

Quand vint son arrière-saison,
Saint-Martin se fit ermite,
L'on ne sait pour quelle raison
Il nous quitta aussi vite ;
Puis à Gondecourt et Houplin,
Annœullin, Provins, c'est la fête,
Mais c'est à cause que Saint-Martin
Y passa avec sa musette.
