Le recueil des chartes de Cluny nous présente un Villa que dicitur Capella de l'an 1049 jusqu'à l'année 1109. Le pouillé de Lyon nous dévoilera un Capella de Castellario puis un Capella Castellarium en 1369 cité dans les archives des Dombes.

La chapelle originelle, placée sous la protection de Saint-Pierre, est maintenant disparue et vous ne la confondrons pas avec la chapelle Notre-Dame-de-Beaumont. Signalons un Ecclesia de Sancto Germano quae sita est intra ecclesiam de Capelle et ecclesiam de Marlico signalé en 1106 dans les chartes de Cluny. Nous voyons aussi un Prior de Capella en 1350 signalant que la chapelle originelle est prieuré. En 1671, nous lirons un Ecclesia de Capella aliàs du Chastelard.

Les cartes des Cassini nous permettent de situé cette chapelle au lieu-dit éponyme alors que le bourg actuel est juste qualifié de Châtelard.
