⌘ Étymologies et toponymes

Peu après le 20 août 1727, la signature du Traité de Bura - traité russo-chinois fixant pacifiquement la frontière sino-russe, par le Comte Savva Lukich Raguzinsky-Vladislavitch et les autorités chinoises, un avant-poste fut établi sur ordre du Comte en ce lieu, sur la rivière Kyakhta.

Pour éviter toutes surprises, le Comte demanda à ses hommes de trouver une rivière coulant de la Russie vers la Chine et non l'inverse: cela évitant - au cas où, le risque de voir la rivière contaminée côté chinois. La Kyakhta étant seule rivière de la région correspondante, il fit établir le fortin originel sur ses rives.

Ce toponyme, aussi hydronyme, dérive du bouriate Khyag - хяг - mauvaise herbe, chiendent. L'Église de la Sainte-Trinité - Troïtski, combinée au nom de famille du Comte Savva - Савва donnera son nom à la ville nouvelle: Троицкосавск - Troïtskosavsk qui deviendra Кяхта - Kyakhta avec la Révolution.
