⌘ Étymologies et toponymes

Khan-Uul, en mongol Хан-Уул, tient son toponyme du massif montagneux appelé Богд хан уул - Bogd Khan Uul dont le sommet éponyme culmine à 2.261 mètres.

Ce lieu et massif nous est signalé dans la Loi du Grand Yuan de Mongolie en l'an 1294. Le chapitre 398 de ce code signale en effet que les lieux de beauté naturelle comme la montagne Bogd Khan, Otgontenger, Khan Khentii et Altain Nüser Davaa sont protégées ; cela faisant des mongols les précurseurs des parcs nationaux.

En 1978, à l'initiative du Ministre Yundendorji, la montagne est déclarée zone protégée ; cette protection sera renforcée en 1957, 1974 puis 1995.
