Natif de Guidel, au moulin de Locmaria, en ce beau jour du 12 avril 1858, Édouard Cadic est fils de meunier. Son enfance passée, élève intelligent, il est dirigé vers Saint-Anne d'Auray, au petit séminaire, puis poursuivra ses études à Paris. Étant engagé comme examinateur à Université Royale d’Irlande, en Dublin, il part pour ce pays ses étude terminées. Plusieurs de ses élèves vont devenir des grands de l'Histoire Irlandaise, comme Seamus Kelly ou James Joyce. N'ayant jamais abandonné sa Bretagne natale, Édouard Cadic sera en contact avec Anatole Le Braz, natif de Lorient, ou Charles Le Goffic, entre autre. Mort à Dublin en janvier 1914, il fait un leg à sa commune natale dans le but de soulager les pauvres. Une place de la commune porte son nom: la Place Édouard Cadic, au centre bourg.
