⌘ Étymologies et toponymes

Certines est attesté en 1310 avec un Essartines, toponyme que nous retrouvons en 1325 avec un Essertines dans le pouillé de Lyon puis sous la forme de Sartines en 1564.

Ce toponyme provient des grands défrichages et déboisements du Moyen-Âge. Dérivant du latin Exsarire, lui même dérivant de Sarire signifiant sarcler. Dans cette famille de toponymes rappelant les défrichements et déboisements, nous retrouvons de multiples Essarts dans la moitié nord de la France de langue d'Oïl.
