⌘ Étymologies et toponymes

Brens est attesté en 1339, date à laquelle nous le retrouvons avec un de Brengo. Nous le trouvons sous une forme proche en 1361 avec un Breins qui deviendra Brens en 1444.

D'après Ernest Nègre, ce toponyme dériverait de l'anthroponyme germanique Beringus. Nous pourrions aussi, et c'est une autre hypothèse, y trouver un toponyme d'origine celtique dérivant de Bre - colline, hauteur ; cette hypothèse voyant notre préférence.
