Commune des Dombes, Bouligneux possède deux pièces majeures au cœur de ce charmant et impressionnant terroir voyant terres et mondes lacustres se mélanger.

Le Château de Bouligneux, parfaitement conservé, est l'une de ces pièces ; l'autre, l'Église Saint-Marcel est deuxième élément majeur de ce patrimoine remarquable et nous ne pouvons que vous inviter à la visiter en ayant pensée vers le spirituel, quelque soit votre religion ou sentiment religieux.

Ces deux piliers sont au centre d'une nature remarquable qui ne peut que prolonger la visite de ce château et église.

Château de Bouligneux

Parfaitement conservé, le château féodal de Bouligneux est construit en briques lui donnant un aspect esthétique remarquable et révélateur du manque de carrières dans les Dombes.

Girard de La Palud, seigneur de Varambon, de Richemont et de Tossiat, vassal du Dauphin Humbert IV, lança la construction de l'édifice en 1306 ; bien sûr, les siècles verront quelques modifications comme aux XVI° et XVII° siècles. Comme tous édifices de ce type, le château était entouré d'eau ; un accès a modifié cette organisation première. Transformé en ferme, la construction évitera la destruction mais subira la modification de sa tour et la destruction de son pont-levis, tous deux trop Ancien Régime. Une des courtines a été raséeet ouvre maintenant la cour seigneuriale à l'ouest.

Église Saint-Marcel

Nous sommes dans les Dombes et cela se voit aux briques bâtissant la demeure du monde spirituel. Mentionnée dès l'an 940 dans une Charte de l'Abbaye de Cluny sont elle dépendait, l'édifice actuel est daté de l'année 1150 comme visible sur la façade.

Formant Croix Latine, l'église est bien caractéristique d'un Art Français riche et passionnant. Deux chapelles complètent lédifice et, au nord, la Chapelle des Seingeurs fut ajoutée en 1406 et voulue par un certain Pierre de La Palud. Regardant vers le Ciel, vous remarquerez les attributs des quatre évangélistes portant chacun un phylactère. Les symboles de nos évangélistes sont: le Lion pour Marc, le Taureau pour Luc, l'Homme pour Mathieu et l'Aigle pour Jean.
