Bergesserin nous est connu dès l'an 996 avec un Bargeserenam villam paru dans une bulle de l'Abbaye de Cluny ; ce toponyme sera d'ailleurs confirmé en l'an 996.

C'est encore Cluny qui nous fait voir un Ad Bargisserenum en 1050, toponyme qui devient Barserens en 1218 puis Bergeseren au XIV° siècle.
