Nous retrouvons un Bericiacum au X° siècle, puis 1248 quand apparaît un Berisie avec certitude dans les écrits. 1250 nous fera découvrir un Bereyssia dans le pouillé de Lyon qui sera suivi d'un Bereyssiacus en 1359 alors que 1401 nous offre un Apud Bereysiacum vetus. Le pouillé de Lyon dévoile un Bereysia en 1492 puis un Bereisies en 1548.

Ce toponyme, comme la majorité des toponymes en -ac, dérive de l'anthroponyme d'un propriétaire de domaine gallo-romain ; ici, sans doute, un certain Bericius d'origine gauloise.
