⌘ Étymologies et toponymes

Benivay-Ollon, en provençal Benivai se retrouve en 1293 dans l'Inventaire du Dauphiné avec un Castrum de Beuvennay puis, en 1300, avec un Castrum de Benivayo, Benneuvay en 1317.

Peut-être pourrions-nous rapprocher ce toponyme haut-alpin de Nossage et Bénévent

Ollon est attesté en 1251 dans l'Inventaire des Dauphins sous la forme latine Castrum de Avalono, Castrum de Aulono en 1284 ou, au XVIII° siècle, Aulon. Ollon, en 1790, était une paroisse dépendant de l'élection de Montélimar.

Ce toponyme dériverait du celte Abalo - pomme que l'on retrouve toujours en breton avec Aval <=> des pommes en général - Avaloù <=> pommes - Gwez-avaloù <=> des pommiers. Il en est de même pour les autres langues celtiques qui voient cette racine toujours existante.
