Angervilliers est attesté pour la première fois connue en 1117 sous la forme Angelviler puis un Angivillare en 1185. Comme tous les toponymes en -villiers, ce toponyme désigne un domaine rural, plus ou moins grand, précédé d'un anthronponyme, ici un certain Angilio ou Angel.

Le Villare latin a évolué en Villier avec les ans.
