Aigurande est attesté dès 1083 et apparaît dans les cartulaires de l'abbaye de Marmoutiers. Aigurande, selon Julien Havet (1853 - 1893), dériverait du celtique continental Ingorande rappelant une frontière hydrique, un passage d'une entité antéromaine à une autre à travers un cours d'eau marquant frontière. Aigurande dépendait de l'ancien diocèse de Poitiers alors que le Blanc dépendait de l'ancien diocèse de Bourges.

Aigurande est d'étymologie identique aux Ingrandes, toponymes relativement nombreux en France et de caractéristiques identiques.
