Aiglun, en occitan Eiglù, est attesté pour la première fois connue en 1193 sous la forme Aigluzino puis se retrouve - dans une forme plus intéressante au point de vue étymologique - sous la forme Aygladuno en 1319.

Aiglun dérive du mot celtique Dun - forteresse ; mot que l'on retrouve dans de nombreux toponymes comme London - Londres, Lugdun - Lyon, etc...

Le radical de ce toponyme dériverait du mot latin Aquila - Aigle.
