Agenville, en picard Ginville, est un toponyme gallo-romain comme le souligne le suffixe -Ville dérivant de Villa et rappelant l'existence d'un domaine gallo-romain. Si nous ne trouvons trace écrite de ce topoyme qu'en 1372 sous la forme Assenville, il ne signifie pas que ce toponyme n'était existant plus avant dans le passé.

Agenville dériverait donc de l'anthroponyme latin Assenius - que l'on retrouve aussi dans l'étymologie de Acigné, commune de Bretagne.
