Abbécourt est attesté dès 1151 dans le chapître de l'abbaye de Prémontré ; il s'y retrouve sous la forme Abecurt. Ce village, d'après la tradition, doit son origine et son nom à une ferme bâtie par un abbé de Saint-Médard, venu de Soissons.

La seigneurie d'Abbécourt, vassale de Chauny, a été unie, au mois de mai 1645 au marquisat de Genlis ; elle en fut séparée depuis 1685 jusqu'au mois de juin 1736.
